Strawberries are Here!

Hood strawberries are the best jam strawberries and they are finally in season!  We went to a local farm to pick some last weekend.  It was a first for me, I usually just buy them at a Farmer's Market but decided the kids would have fun with it.  Joshua apparently had a tiring morning and passed out in the car on our drive there so he slept through the festivities until of course we were leaving and he was not happy about it!  Megan had a good time though, pointing out the good strawberries and the bad strawberries to us.  We picked about 10 pounds of strawberries which turned into about 12 pints of jelly, homemade strawberry ice cream, strawberry spinach salad and at least a couple of pints for nibbling.  Joshua probably had a pint all to himself!  I think we are going to have to go back for more, at least to let Joshua have some fun too.  Luckily it's all you can eat!

Pacific City

Josh and I found a great deal to stay at the Craftsman Bed and Breakfast in Pacific City.  We stayed for a couple of days last week and had a very relaxing time.  It was the first time for both of us in Pacific City and we did a lot of reading, napping and enjoying time together.  The B&B was very comfortable and we had great meals there.  It was also our first experience at a B&B which we were a bit nervous about.  It ended up being a lot of fun getting to know the other guests at breakfast, some were from as far away as Austin, TX.  Our our way home, we drove north on the 101 and stopped in Cannon Beach to walk around and have lunch.  We haven't been there since before we were married, I think.  It is also one of our favorite beach towns.  While we were away, the kids were having their own vacation at Tami and Devin's and I'm sure only missed us a very teeny tiny bit.  It was very sweet to get a phone call from Megan on the first night to check on us and see how we were doing.  Although we just got back, I'm sure we'd take another trip like that again at the first opportunity.  We had a great time together and it felt very overdue!

Josh, the photographer, got some great pictures of our walk up the dune and at sunset another night.

Run for Kyron 2012

Today was bittersweet.  Megan was 3 when Kyron disappeared and she recognized that she kept seeing his face on the news and posters and billboards.  She asked a lot of questions which I tried to answer in as much of a 3 year old answer as possible.  2 years later, she still asks questions and this time I'm a little more outright with her about what has possibly happened.  It was an odd experience seeing Kaine Horman, as if a celebrity, but nothing near and never wanted to be.  It has to be very bittersweet for him to be at an event like this.  It benefits his missing son and everyday has to be so difficult.  I get very emotional when I think about Kyron because it is so difficult not to think of my own kids and being in that horrible situation.  It is definitely heart wrenching.

That aside, Megan had a lot of fun in her race.  She finished fourth overall and was the first girl finisher!  She took off at full speed and I thought she would run out of steam but she kept going and going!  Doesn't she look like such a cutie in her running pants?  She has great form too!!

Here is the link to the news clip of the event.  You can see her for a half second in the kids race!  Look for the flash of pink shirt!
